Our Story

Patrick Rawlings has been building in the Coachella Valley for nearly four decades. He started in the carpenters union, learned the craft from the ground up, and spent years working alongside some of the region's most reputable contractors. In 1999, he went out on his own — and Rawlings Custom Contracting was born.

In recent years he's made a deliberate choice: fewer projects, higher standards, and the kind of hands-on involvement at every stage that simply isn't possible when you're running a high-volume operation. Every project that comes through Rawlings Custom gets Patrick's direct attention and expertise.

Matt came to Patrick the way most clients do — through a referral. When he was considering purchasing his home in the Little Tuscany neighborhood of Palm Springs, he learned that Patrick had worked on the property before. Several conversations turned into a contract, and a whole-home renovation that ran from March 2023 to June 2024. Midway through that project, Matt made a decision: he left his role on the advertising team at Amazon in Seattle, moved to Palm Springs, and joined Patrick to see the renovation through its finishing stages — and to stay.

Matt brought a different kind of experience: years of managing complex creative projects across large teams at Amazon, where delivering on time and on budget isn't optional. He saw in Patrick's work an opportunity to layer in modern project management tools and a unique client perspective — and the two have been building together ever since.

Rawlings Custom today is the product of those two things combined: Patrick's unmatched depth of local expertise and hands-on craftsmanship, and a modern approach to how a renovation is managed and experienced from the client's side.
